At 10-12 weeks old, or at 10-12 years old, your dog can be taught to sit still while you, a family member or a neighbor pets him. You want to pet your dog, and your dog loves the attention from you. He simply needs to be taught under what manner you expect him to behave before the petting begins. Dogs learn this in all our boarding training programs. Dogs jump while playing with other dogs, so it is natural that they think they can jump on people in the greeting. Once your dog learns, that if “Calm”, you will give him all the loving he can handle, he is happy to sit in the greeting. Some family members do not want the dog to touch them in the greeting, this is helpful for older owners and small children. For those who want a more “Contact Greeting”, we teach dogs the Family Greeting in all our boarding training programs.
