1) Housebreaking Success is comprised by a number of factors:
a) The dog understanding “outdoors good, indoors bad”. We do not recommend “Puppy Pads” for this reason
b) The dog developing a strong substrate reference (grass, ground cover, etc. for elimination;
c) The dog understanding and is awaiting a consistent schedule;
d) The dog learning physical and psychological control of the outer bladder sphincter and outer anal sphincter muscles;
e) The dog physically developing myelination of peripheral nerve cells affecting voluntary elimination activities.
Whispering Oaks Professional Dog Training Teaches YOUR PUPPY the concepts of “outdoors good, indoors bad” in our 21 Day Basic Obedience for Puppies.
He needs to be set up for success while concurrently limiting opportunities for failure and he needs to be accompanied whenever he urinates/defecates, so that you may properly communicate praise or correction, depending on the appropriateness of his elimination. We will begin this process by Crate Training. We will cover these concepts in our 4 hour Train the Train Turnover on the day you pick your Puppy up from Basic Obedience Training. The Feeding Schedule & Eliminating Schedule will be documented for you and explained so you can easily transfer it to your home or office. The preceding means he needs to be crated, tethered, or supervised during the majority of his waking hours and his unsupervised yard time needs to be limited in comparison to a dog where housebreaking is not a primary part of the lesson plan.
Our experience of 26 years Boarding Training Puppies success & guarantees This time frame may be two weeks to two month or more depending on the age of your puppy. We will teach him, and you will need to take him to one specific place to Urinate and another to Defecate (these can be a short distance apart). Both places should possess the same substrate material, preferably pine straw mulch, grass, etc.
STAY ON PUPPY’S Schedule: You need to consistently apply your feeding & eliminating schedule, so that YOUR PUPPY understands when he will be taken to eliminate.
